Hahahahaha

A jobless man applied for the position of ‘office boy’ at Microsoft. The HR
manager interviewed him, then gave him a test, which was to clean the floor.
After that the HR manager said “You are engaged, give meyour e-mail address,
and I’ll send you the application to fill, as well as when you will start”.

The man replied, “I don’t have a computer, neither an email”. “I’m sorry”, said
the HR manager, “if you don’t have an email, that means you do not exist. And
who doesn’t exist, cannot have the job”. The man left with no hope at all. He
didn’t know what to do, with only 10US$ in his pocket.

The man then decided to go to the supermarket and buy a 10 Kg tomato crate. He
sold the tomatoes in a door-to-door round. In less than two hours, He succeeded
to double his capital. He repeated the operation three times, and returned home
with 60 US$. The man realized that he could survive this way, and started to go
everyday earlier, and return late.

Thus, his money doubled and tripled! Day by day. Shortly later, he bought a
car, then a truck, then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles. 5years
later, the man became one of the biggest food retailers in the U.S.

He started to plan his family’s future, and decided to get life insurance. He
called an insurance broker, and chooses a protection plan. When the
conversation was concluded, the broker asked him for his email. The man
replied: “I don’t have an email”. The broker replied curiously, “You don’t have
an email, and yet have succeeded to build an empire. Do you imagine what you
could have been if you had an email?”!!

The man thought for a while, and replied: “an office boy at Microsoft!”

The moral of this story:
1. Internet is not the solution to your life
2. If you don’t have Internet, work hard, you can be a millionaire.
3. If you received this message by email, you are closer to be an office boy,
rather than a millionaire.

P.S.: Do not reply this email to me I am going to sell tomatoes

‘Speedy, Bayar Broadband dengan Kualitas Dial-Up’

“Bahkan sudah seperti dial-up biasa!” keluhnya. Continue reading ‘Speedy Mengecewakan’

Kreteks…

Today clove cigarettes are a signature of Indonesia. The whole country sometimes seems to smell of them. In the congested cities, even automobile exhaust is sweetened by the scent of clove.

And they are intimately entwined with Indonesia’s history.

“What is that you are smoking, sir?” asked a diplomat, according to an oft-told tale, addressing Indonesia’s first ambassador to Great Britain 50 years ago.

The ambassador, Agus Salim, was ready with his riposte: “That, your excellency, is the reason for which the West conquered the world!”

Indeed. In the late 15th and early 16th centuries, it was the cloves of the Moluccas and the nutmeg of the Banda islands — worth more than their weight in gold — that drew European explorers and colonists into the South Seas.

“In this respect, clove may be seen as having played a central role in Indonesia’s past and in the history of the world in general,” writes Mark Hanusz in a new coffee table book called “Kretek: The Culture and Heritage of Indonesia’s Clove Cigarettes” (Equinox Publishing, 2000).

Finally……

Lagi2 BeOS

Taken from Ubuntu forum

I have been a fan of BeOS since the late 90s when I bought the 5.01 Pro CD and today I still use it on another drive in my machine. Haiku I hope can deliver the BeOS improved promise in open source. I am not a coder but just a user and I am waiting for a bootable form that is as easy to use and as functional as BeOS Pro before I will be trying it out too. Now I love Ubuntu and think it is the greatest Linux distro so far and should have a great future, but it still is not BeOS and probably never can be with the Linux kernel. Of course the future is not known, but one day maybe, just maybe, once Haiku is out and gaining steam if it is as good as promised, and since it too will be open source maybe, just maybe, there may be a non linux Ubuntu/Haiku version of Ubuntu specifically for the non server Desktop computer users. Bye bye Apple and Microsoft on the desktop if that was the case, IMHO. This would free up Linux more to go after the business and server markets. Google and others are already showing interest in both Ubuntu and Haiku. Easy fast and user friendly is the name of the game, and also open source.

I know I know it is a crazy concept, but does Ubuntu actually need to be tied to the Linux kernel and structure the way it is, or could it just as easily switch to using the Haiku frame work for the Desktop??

BeOS was designed in the 90s with no legacy restrictions from many decades of previous coding, for use to be a high speed really user friendly (read that no coding or command line needed for the users even though it has one for those who are into that level of usage), for fast, stable, and easy internet and high demand media content like movies, audio and graphics It is designed for using up to 8 CPUs at once, with its 8 thread core and 8 thread apps. Now, right around the corner in this year we will see the first quad core chips (4 cpus) and the new dual quad chip mother boards (8 CPUs) or exactly what the system was prepared to take full advantage of over 10 years ago. Did I mention its 64 bit nature?

For me, I can dream of the perfect system and that for me would be a dual quad system with gigs of ram running a Ubuntu OS based off of Haiku/BeOS and not Linux. Lnux and BeOS/Haiku do not have the same objectives and abilities, but BeOS/Haiku have much more in common with Ubuntu’s goals.

A little history for those that don’t know about BeOS. BeOS was created by former Apple people in the 90s from a clean sheet of paper as a new OS. BeInc sold this intellectual property in 2001 or so to Palm along with a deal for Gassee (the head of BeInc.) and many of it coders to go and work for Palm creating a new OS for them. They also sued Microsoft for its monopolistic practices keeping BeOS off the OEM Windows computers and Microsoft settle longed before it could go to trial. Zeta was created by some fans and devlopers of BeOS and uses part of the original BeOS coding on lease agreement from BeInc (now Palm). I heard somewhere, and I don’t know if it is true, that the original BeOS kernel and coding was later sold to an asian company by Palm in the last few years. Haiku is something like 700 million lines of code to recreate the BeOS structure in open source and was started in about 2001-2002 and also done by a handfull of developers and fans of BeOS.

What Ubuntu lacks is what Haiku has and what Haiku lacks is what Ubuntu has and since the basic goal is the same it seems to me like a natural match. OK I am nuts

Be Or Not To Be

Ahhh…..senang sekali pernah punya sejarah dengan BeOS…the best OS ever made….

http://www.bitsofnews.com/content/view/5454/44/

Written by Philipe Rubio

Back in 2001 when the company behind BeOS, Be Inc. went bust, and its intellectual property was sold to Palm Inc, everything looked rather dim in the world of alternative operating systems.

BeOS was and probably still is one of the most “sexy” operating systems ever made, but sadly it was way ahead of its time. When Windows was still stuck with the FAT32 file system, which only supported files with no greater size than 2GB (files larger than this at your own risk of data loss), BeOS featured its own 64bit journaling file system, BFS, that supported file sizes north of 260GB.

Not only was BeOS’s file system far superior to that of other operating systems at the time or now for that sake, but even on an old Pentium powered computer you had boot times below 10 seconds, compared to Windows’ two cups of coffee and a pack of cigarettes boot time.

But what made this operating system so “sexy”? BeOS’s Graphical User Interface (GUI) actually did what a GUI is supposed to do, it was developed on the principles of clarity and a clean, uncluttered design. Which made the operating system very easy to use, it was snappy unlike the multi-second delay you sometimes get on Windows when just switching between windows. I would sit here for ages if I where to tell you about all the wonderful things BeOS offered, but I’ll spare you the time and get to the point. (Did I mention multi CPU/core support 10 years even the first dual-core x86)

Hahaha…dari si molly

Once again I have stumbled across a rather unrealistic job description for a web developer/designer. Apparently, one must have “expert level” skills in ALL of the following: Perl, PHP, ASP, .NET, HTML, CSS, RSS, ATOM, JavaScript, Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, graphic user interface design as well as interaction design. The applicant must have at least five years practical experience, and a computer science degree (note, not a design degree) is a “plus.”

The salary? 50,000 USD per year with benefits. That’s about 25,000 GBP per year.

If one has all those skills at expert level for at least five years and has a good attitude in the workplace, he or she is truly worth a heck of a lot more money than that. I’m getting really frustrated with employer ads that throw as many possible skills into the ad and assume one potential employee can fill the job at expert level. What’s more, precious few people writing up these job descriptions have any reasonable understanding of what it takes to be a true web professional.

The creative task? Write up an advertisement as if you were the employer and you, the perfect match. What does the ad require, and what do you see as fair equivalent compensation for your skillset?

Who knows, maybe we can help potential employers understand just what it takes to be a true professional in this industry.

http://www.molly.com/2006/11/17/creativity-jam-session-write-your-own-web-dev-job-advert/

These lists of “requirements” are actually fantasies, often produced by someone quite clueless about the position as a description of their “dream applicant”

“Must have at least [frightening number of] years experience working with [inordinately broad range of specialisations]. [Guru-level] knowledge in [every specification/software package/OS you’ve ever heard of, and some you haven’t] essential. Familiarity with [ultra-specific niche] a plus. Salary [janitorial/negotiable], subject to experience.”

A few days ago, i saw announcement at Stylegala. I have even referred to the old joke, about a soldier, that if a programmer would be a soldier, then you would expect him to: know how to shoot, to swim, to drive a any tank since WW2, fly a helicopter, be a perfect pilot for the most of the aircraft fighters, experienced bomber, admiral of the fleet, commander of a submarine and of course be a good cook. =O)

It is more then ridiculous to expect everything from one person. No one is that good, and i think those advertisements saying a lot about those people who publish them – don’t believe they are that good at the marketing and human resources sciences.
