I’m leaving…for good

REALbasic

hmmm…semakin di eksplor semakin suka gw ama REALbasic….gara2 lanjutin CM v7 gw pingin kontrol yg reusable….gak ada guna “reinventing-the-wheel” trus-trusan kan? kalo kata David H.”Ruby-On-Rails” Hansson, “Don’t-Repeat-Urself”…..Dan in this respect gw suka banget the way RB handle the things buat gw….clear and logical….gw pake container control….menolong bgt ngurangin waktu development….apalagi yg gw kerjain ini mahal bgt di pasaran…antara 175 jt – 2M…gile kerja satu tim gw single-handed….wekekekkeke…meski katanya going-solo-development itu bad…gw sulit cari yg ngerti RB…itu soalnya…lagian ini sampingan kok….

Tapi jujur saja meski dah sampe REALbasic 2007r5 yg gw pake…masalah maturity IDE-nya ya janganlah dibandingin sama VS atau Delphi ataw NetBeans…apa yg “the-way-it-should-be” di IDE laen mungkin di RB gak. malahan kadang mendekatipun nggak. yah terima aja dulu mudah2an di versi mendatang lebih bagus…

Passion

RailSpace

51w2gz6rlnl_aa240_.jpgKelar juga baca buku ini wewewew keren bgt coy, buku tentang ruby-on-rails….u guys owe yourself to check it out. highly recommended. gw kasih 4.5 out of 5

Book Description: Ruby on Rails is fast displacing PHP, ASP, and J2EE as the development framework of choice for discriminating programmers, thanks to its elegant design and emphasis on practical results. RailsSpace teaches you to build large-scale projects with Rails by developing a real-world application: a social networking website like MySpace, Facebook, or Friendster.

Inside, the authors walk you step by step from the creation of the site’s virtually static front page, through user registration and authentication, and into a highly dynamic site, complete with user profiles, image upload, email, blogs, full-text and geographical search, and a friendship request system. In the process, you learn how Rails helps you control code complexity with the model-view-controller (MVC) architecture, abstraction layers, automated testing, and code refactoring, allowing you to scale up to a large project even with a small number of developers.

This essential introduction to Rails provides
A tutorial approach that allows you to experience Rails as it is actually used
A solid foundation for creating any login-based website in Rails
Coverage of newer and more advanced Rails features, such as form generators, REST, and Ajax (including RJS)
A thorough and integrated introduction to automated testing

The book’s companion website provides the application source code, a blog with follow-up articles, narrated screencasts, and a working version of the RailSpace social network.

Underdog Gems

Nowadays we hear lots of hype about .NET and J2EE, lots of propaganda about how both C# and Java are “The Way of the Future.” But as we all know, sometimes the real gem is the unsong underdog, the one that don’t have full page ads in tech journals.

Good design is like pornography

Good design is like pornography: You know it when you see it. Rails is like very, very good pornography.

Will Ruby take over Java or C# as one of the leading modern software development languages? I doubt it—although Ruby is supposedly quite popular in Japan. As someone who has been in this industry many years, I am not pessimistic about its chances, but I am pragmatic. I found Smalltalk to be a far superior programming language to Java, but alas, superior does not always win. There is a lot of support behind existing languages—both technical and marketing. Libraries, toolkits, frameworks, architectures, connectors, adapters, platform support, services, knowledgebase, competent implementation teams, etc. have all been put in place to support programming languages like Java. And, like it or not, marketing machines at Sun and Microsoft will ensure the success of the current development environments for sometime to come….Sometimes, we need to be reminded of the way things should be. Even if Ruby does not become a commonly used, supported, and marketed programming language, perhaps with enough awareness and a little use, some of its features will find their way to the programming environments we know—if not love—today.
